But apart from these there is also the fact that the Church
in much of the traditionally Christian world is still on the way from being an established Church (that is, a social institution to which all more or less
belong) to a Church of personal faith
in a
pluralistic society.
«There then remain two alternatives for philosophy: (i) a monistic universe with the illusion of change; and (ii) a
pluralistic universe
in which «change» means the diversities among the actual entities which
belong to some one
society of a definite [personal] type» (PR 79).
