If you're a light traveler (you haven't racked up anything close to what you need for a significant award
in an airline or hotel program) but are a heavy - duty shopper, you can earn miles and points when shopping online at such merchants as The Gap, Tommy Hilfiger, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Body Shop and our favorite, Mrs. Field's Cookies.
The enhancement to Avis Preferred gives customers an alternative to earning mileage or points
in airline or hotel frequent traveler programs when they rent from Avis.
You might even go eat at a restaurant that participates
in an airline or hotel dining program.
Add
in airline or hotel brand restrictions, and successfully organizing your points or miles vacation can start to feel like wandering through a maze with nothing but dead ends.
Not exact matches
The card earns Membership Rewards points, the currency
in Amex's loyalty program, which can be exchanged for statement credits
or cash back, used to book travel through Amex's travel website,
or, to get the most value, transferred to any of 17
airline and three
hotel transfer partners (transferable points are among the best).
The Virgin brand tells you that using this credit card is rather like using this

in many places.
You may select your 3 % cash back category from the following eight categories: (1) airfare purchased directly from
airlines, (2)
hotel stays (excluding timeshares, banquets and events), (3) purchases from select major car rental companies listed at americanexpress.com/rewards-info, (4) purchases at U.S. gas stations, (5) purchases at U.S. restaurants, (6) purchases made
in the U.S. for shipping,
or (7) purchases made
in the U.S. for advertising
in select media, and (8) computer hardware, software, and cloud computing purchases made
in the U.S. directly from select providers.
The cards can come
in many different varieties whether its
airlines,
hotels, cash back
or business.
In addition, several of the major
hotel programs are featured, and transfers from this program are virtually instantaneous, allowing you to book
airline tickets
or award nights at
hotels that you found before the availability disappears.
However, if you're planning on using the Chase Freedom Unlimited ®
in combination with the Chase Sapphire Preferred ® card you can get great returns by transferring your rewards and redeeming them for travel through Chase
or its
airline and
hotel partners.
