Forty - two per cent of staff in schools
in areas of high deprivation revealed that they did not offer enough work experience placements, in comparison to the 58 per cent that stated they did.
In rural and deprived areas these concerns manifested themselves in higher levels of driving and bus travel, along with more children being accompanied to school by an
adult in areas of high deprivation.
The SHeS analysis showed no variation with household income for boys or girls, but
boys in areas of high deprivation were less likely to meet physical activity recommendations than those in more affluent areas, with no clear pattern for girls.
The scandal comes at a time when a recent survey on school governance carried out by the University of Bath and the National Governors Association (NGA)-- the most extensive of its kind to date — revealed that finding and keeping school governors in tough
schools in areas of high deprivation is not easy.
Demographic and socio - economic factors were again also significantly independently associated with behavioural outcomes: children with a younger mother, those with lower social support, who had lived in persistent poverty and
in an area of higher deprivation had poorer behavioural outcomes than other children.
