However, the man is not a literature specialist, so what reason do I have to seriously consider what he has to say about «fairy tales,» much less about «philosophy» and «
theology» when he hasn't even so much as an undergraduate degree
in either
of those
areas.

in other
areas.
Since then pastoral counseling, greatly assisted by the clinical training pattern, has developed into a dominant
area of ministry, mounting to its present ascendency
in practical
theology.
The
theology of the Mass is another
area which we think is ripe for development, especially given the affirmation
in Gaudium et Spes that «
in her most benign Lord and Master can be found the key, the focal point and the goal
of man, as well as
of all human history» (n. 10).
Your M.D. gives as much credibility as my J.D.
in the
area of Catholic
theology.
Those theologians who are persuaded by present discussions
in analytical philosophy will insist that even a consideration
of the problem
of their relevance to
theology is misguided; for this is to confuse two different
areas of discourse, the scientific and the religious.
As Don S. Browning notes below, several scholars are currently doing creative work
in the
area of practical
theology.
A minor figure
in the history
of American philosophy and
theology, although somewhat more prominent
in Methodist circles, McCabe's importance rested as much

areas of tension among evangelicals: women's ordination, the charismatic movement, ecumenical relations, social ethics, strategies
of evangelism, Biblical criticism, Biblical infallibility, contextual
theology in non-Western cultures, and the churchly applications
of the behavioral sciences.2 If such a list is more exhaustive than those topics which this book has pursued, it nevertheless makes it clear that the foci
of the preceding chapters have at least been representative.
And all reputable translations say the same thing
in all critical
areas of theology.
Even
in the
area of his greatest contribution, the doctrine
of man, he was too polemical to be confined to the formal structures
of theology.
Bonhoeffer's
theology made several contributions, particularly
in the
area of ecclesiology and the ecumenical movement, ethics and the role

theology of creation which tackles many
of the questions which arise at the interface
of faith and science
in the
area of Darwinian evolution.
Thus, Christology is the most important
area of Christian
theology and,
in virtue
of that very fact, the most dangerous.
