If your dog is around other dogs, visits places where other dogs have been, or is around people (like myself) who come
in contact with other dogs, then your dog will get dog flu at some point.
The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) cautions that dogs that are frequently
in contact with other dogs are at especially high risk of infection.9 Pet owners should isolate their dogs from any dog that is coughing or shows signs of respiratory illness, and should consult a veterinarian.
If you will be taking your dog to a groomer, boarding kennel, dog park or any area where he will come
in contact with other dogs, ask your veterinarian about this vaccination.
We would also strongly recommend that any dog that goes to grooming facilities, dog parks, dog training, or routinely comes
in contact with other dogs be vaccinated for Bordetella.
Although there is some element of risk, in most cases the puppies will either still have some maternal antibody protection or will only be
in contact with other dogs that are up - to - date on all their shots (such as puppy kindergarten).
However, whenever they come
in contact with other dogs they are exposing them to Canine Cough, putting them at high risk for infection.
Dogs that are frequently
in contact with other dogs — for example at boarding or day care facilities, dog parks, grooming salons, or social events with other dogs present — are at greater risk of coming into contact with the virus if there is an outbreak.
The vet will diagnose kennel cough based on the dog's clinical symptoms and history of being boarded or
in contact with other dogs.
Dogs that will be
in contact with other dogs, such as in boarding or grooming situations, training classes, or even dog parks, may benefit from vaccination.
It is crucial that anywhere that your puppy has been
in contact with other dogs or left fecal traces, be notified that they could be contaminated with Parvo.
