The goal was to increase rabies vaccination rates
in response to increased

dogs actually lowers

It is a tragedy for all involved when a
dog bite incident occurs that results
in injury (or worse) to a human or another companion animal.
In fact, legislation that targets
dogs by breed has been proven to be ineffective when it comes to reducing
dog -

in a
dog's presumed breed being recorded including arrival at a shelter, veterinary visits, licensing, housing and insurance applications, medical visits following
dog bites, and the subsequent media reporting of such
incidents.
Children are most likely to be the victims of
dog biting incidents, as are people with multiple canines
in their home.
DogsBite.org, a group that advocates
in favor of BSL, points to its own research, culled from news reports of
dog -
bite - related fatalities, that shows 74 % of

This type of reporting puts a slant on
dog bite statistics
in that certain breeds of
dog (namely those with increased natural jaw strength) are more likely to inflict significant damage or even cause death with a
biting incident than other varieties.
The study, published
in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, of 256
dog bite - related fatalities from 2000 - 2009 found co-occurring factors
in more than 80 % of the deadly
incidents, such as the absence of an able - bodied person to stop the attack, a history of abuse or neglect of the
dog and the failure by owners to neuter the
dogs.
But their sentences sum up a huge frustration over the media reporting of
dog bite incidents and why experts
in canine behavior are important resources vs just news sites or people without expertise.

While often these conversations happen
in the context of
dog bite incidents and aggressive behavior, it should be noted that this is also an issue for small
