It was critical that the Horry County Animal Care Center in Conway, South Carolina, clear their shelter in anticipation of having to take
in family pets displaced by Hurricane Irma.

Since its start
in 2007, RedRover has given away thousands of dollars
in grants to help take care of
family pets who are
displaced as a result of
family violence.
These
pets were already at the Houston SPCA prior to the hurricane, and by transporting them into our care, we're enabling space to be freed up
in the shelter there for lost and
displaced animals so that they can be reunited with their
families.
Remember the plight of
pets displaced from their
families in Missouri and Oklahoma after those states were hit by epic tornadoes?
Efforts have included reuniting people with
displaced pets at Baytown Animal Shelter and
in the community; providing
pet food and supplies to help keep people and their
pets together; assisting with adoptions at the shelter and through large - scale adoption events; recruiting new foster
families to rescue
pets from the shelter; expanding our roster of rescue partners and transporting
pets to reputable organizations within a 200 - mile radius of Baytown; and working with veterinarian partners to provide low - cost and free services to rescued and owned
pets.
Many
displaced families now find themselves living
in apartment buildings where
pets aren't allowed — often times forcing them to bring their
pets to local shelters with the hopes that another
family will adopt them.

Pet Disaster Relief funds are going toward the general
pet care and supplies needed to safely shelter
displaced while their
families rebuild and find themselves
in a better situation to care for their
pets.
From organizing supply drives and raising thousands
in funds to making room for hundreds of shelter animals from the south so that
displaced pets had a place to stay while they waited for their
families to find them, our local animal people went above and beyond.
Lives have been lost, homes destroyed, and
pets have been
displaced from their loving
families — all reminders of how precious life is — but through it all we have also seen people come together
in support of one another.
Jane was the catalyst
in putting together a talented and committed team of volunteers and staff from around the country that worked to urgently assist
displaced pets and their
families.
Through our PATCH program, we provide short - term (and sometimes long - term) foster care for
pets in situations where the
family is
displaced from their home or have a temporary need that prevents them from being able to care for their furry
family member.
By transporting
pets that don't have a
family looking for them to other states, it frees up the Texas shelters to be able to accept the
displaced pets from the Hurricane and keep them
in the state, increasing their chances of being reunited.
It took a «village» of animal - lovers to bring these orphan
pets (
in shelters with no forever
families before the storm hit) to San Diego, to make room for those
displaced pets affected by #HurricaneHarvey.

Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company has joined forces with Arvada, Colo. - based
Pet Empawrium and Spaw and Denver - based
pet food distributor, Monarch
Pet Supply, to help hundred of
displaced dogs whose
families are victims of the Black Forest Fire
in Colorado.
Best Friends has provisions
in place to not only provide shelter and food to animals
displaced by the hurricane, but to provide a lost and found service for
families who were separated from their
pets.
