The silicate + CO2 - > different silicate + carbonate chemical weathering rate tends to increase with temperature globally, and so is a negative feedback (but is too slow to damp out
short term changes)-- but chemical weathering is also affected by vegetation, land area, and terrain (and minerology, though I'm not sure how much that varies among entire mountain ranges or climate zones)-- ie mountanous regions which are

shorter -
term fluctuations, and there are some complexities — glaciation can enhance the mechanical erosion that provides surface area for chemical weathering (some of which may be realized after a time delay — ie when the subsequent
warming occurs — dramatically snow
in a Snowball Earth scenario, where the frigid conditions essentially shut down all chemical weathering, allowing CO2 to build up to the point where it thaws the equatorial region, at which point runaway albedo feedback drives the Earth into a carbonic acid sauna, which ends via rapid carbonate rock formation), while lower sea level may increase the oxidation of organic C
in sediments but also provide more land surface for erosion... etc..
This animation shows how the same temperature data (green) that is used to determine the long -

As I understand Hansen he's saying: if we double CO2 this century (so upto about 550 - 600 ppm), that will mean a forcing of about 4 W / m2 and 3 degrees C

Apparently 2013 was a good year to have the number twelve
in your movie title (12 Years a Slave and
Short Term 12) as well as an abstract meaning of the word color (Blue Is the
Warmest Color and Upstream Color).
Right behind these five, it must be acknowledged, are wonderful performances by Brie Larson
in Short Term 12, Adele Exarchopoulos
in Blue is the
Warmest Colour, Amy Adams
in American Hustle (who is the real threat to bump one of the five, though if you asked her I bet she'd not want to do that).

Dear comics, Its not my fault... that you release the same thing
in 5 formats, that you micro-manage your talent so much that they can't tell a decent story and get so pissed off by egos that they go to the other boss, that you don't know how to advertise your product, that you are so trapped by
short term thinking that you fuck your self over, that you don't know how to keep your books
in print, that you drove away people with high prices, oh and I didn't cause global
warming either.
Since the science and theory linking global
warming in the
short term is much weaker than the underlying rationale for long -
term global warning, arguing about
short term trends is dangerous.
I don't reject the belief that increased CO2 levels result
in global
warming, only that the long -
term environmental arguments are weaker than the
short -
term economic ones.
One advantage of the theory that there has been a
warming trend occasionally obscured
in the
short term by natural variability is that we have a mechanism that explains why there should be a
warming trend (CO2) and mechanisms for explaining the variability (IIRC ENSO is responsible for quite a lot of it).
«But it suggests that we may be underestimating the tendency for

Given how much yelling takes place on the Internet, talk radio, and elsewhere over

in relation to global
warming, I wanted to find out whether anyone had generated a decent decades - long graph of global temperature trends accounting for, and erasing, the
short -
term up - and - down flickers from the cyclical shift
in the tropical Pacific Ocean known as the El Niño — Southern Oscillation, or ENSO, cycle.
Therefore those
short term factors are what has affected the last ten years, causing the nonsignificant apparent 10 year decrease
in the magnitude of the overall 30 year
warming trend.
So
in the
short term you make the
warming of the last decade apparrently more significant.
Also keep
in mind (as Gavin mentions) that there is a lot of
short -
term «noise» that will offset
warming, or even cause cooling on
short timescales (such as years to a decade or longer).
I guess my main question is: what projections of
warming can be accurately assessed for their true accuracy
in the
short term (next ten years or so)?
In general, the regions of expanding warming upwelling water in the Indian Ocean, North Pacific, or wherever they are, must create slight bulges in the surface, and the regions of shrinking, cooling, sinking water in the Arctic must create slight depressions in the sea surface (again, I mean in a very low pass sense — obviously storms, tides, etc, create all kinds of short - terms signals obscuring this

The reason for the discrepancy is not that specific scientific findings are
in dispute but that the
warming is only recently emerging
in a significant manner from the various natural
short and long
term background variations.
