members of the
legal profession and expert alike to be able to access court decisions in such difficult cases,

of Protection, to be able to enrich their understanding
of the application
of MCA 2005 in practice.

includes attorneys who are continually ranked at the highest levels

A professional malpractice suit can be brought against any type
of professional,
including accountants, architects, clergypersons, dentists, doctors, engineers, lawyers, and psychologists, but these types
of suits most often involve
members of the medical and
legal professions.

of 75 responses to the consultation were received from a variety

including key prosecutors,
members of the public,
members of the judiciary and
legal profession, businesses, academics and regulatory bodies.

For many years there have been any number
of articles, posts, surveys, and research undertaken by many commentators, observers and participants in the
legal profession,
including members of the judiciary, bringing into question the ethics
of the billable hour and what perverse behaviours it encourages and entrenches into firm cultures.
The ABA Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division is the national voice for solo, small firm and general practice lawyers, providing a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive ABA home, offering a portal to the full resources
of the ABA for solo, small firm and general practice lawyers,
including military lawyers, and ensuring a platform
of programs and collaborations that support and advance
members in their practice and in improving the
legal profession.
We are seeking input via this short survey which is open to SRLs, as well as all
members of the
legal profession,
including lawyers, courthouse professionals, paralegals, and judges.

of members to equal opportunities initiatives,
including those concerned with women's rights and access to the

of Ontario in 2003, Rebecca works as a lawyer, and has previously researched and published in a variety
of areas,
including youth criminal justice law, law practice management and equality issues relating to women and
members of other historically marginalized groups in the
legal profession as well as contributing as author and co-editor to several Demeter Press anthologies.
Members of the LLD have met with leaders and managing partners
of law firms
including the largest national law firms to discuss diversity initiatives within law firms and to stress the importance
of actions to create a more inclusive
legal profession.

Diverse candidates must be in good standing as a first - year law student at an ABA accredited law school; demonstrate a record
of academic and professional achievement; contribute meaningfully to diversity in the
legal profession, which may
include being a
member of a racial / ethnic group that has been historically underrepresented in the
legal profession, or identifying as a person with disabilities, openly LGBT, and / or a military veteran; and have a sincere interest in intellectual property and Fish & Richardson.
From my perspective, the assumption (as articulated by
members of the
profession) that visible minority licensees are not relatively disadvantaged is simply incorrect and even though the statement
of principles decision has been made, there continues to be resistance within the
legal community
including pieces in Law Times, The Toronto Star, The National Post, CBC and page 30
of The Middlesex Law Association's December newsletter.
Worse, the arguments that are being put forward,
including arguments put forward by Benchers and other leading
members of the
legal profession, are so clearly wrong, if not intentionally misleading, that they reflect poorly upon both the people making them and the
legal profession as a whole.
