In this show six artists working in a
figurative mode —
including Dana Schutz, Henry Taylor and past NAP cover artist Keith Mayerson — demonstrate how the oldest of
subject matters can, in the right hands, be as relevant as ever.
With Abstract Expressionism at the forefront of American painting, these artists, which
included Richard Diebenkorn, David Park, Roland Peterson, and Wayne Thiebaud — often referred to as the Bay Area
Figurative artists — explored inventive new ways to depict traditional

All - media artists, sculptors, and photographers are invited to create visual works that interpret the theme «Figuratively Speaking» in two different ways: by depicting human forms, faces and features in representational or abstract works (portraiture, sculpture and all

including people); or works which depict a broader interpretation of the theme, such as
figurative language and figures of speech.
