Unfortunately Poodles are prone to dermatological issues
including sebaceous adenitis, a condition affecting the glands that lubricate the hair follicles and skin.
It includes sebaceous adenitis, pemphigus, and VKH (skin diseases); hemolytic anemia; systemic lupus; polyarthritis; and some thyroid disease.
Other issues that may cause lumps or bumps on your pet
include sebaceous cysts that are essentially just clogged oil glands which will resolve on their own.
Sebaceous gland tumors This group of tumors
include sebaceous hyperplasia, sebaceous epithelioma, sebaceous adenoma, and sebaceous adenocarcinoma.

The stem cells in the bulge are multipotent epithelial stem cells, and can become, or differentiate into, all the epithelial cell types in the follicle (
including hair follicles, epidermis, and
sebaceous glands)(Oshima et al., 2001).
For the study, a bioengineered 3D integumentary organ system (IOS) using several batches of iPS cells,
including the appendage organs like
sebaceous glands and hair follicles were used.
First, a vacuum removes
sebaceous materials,

include claws,
sebaceous glands that lubricate the skin and hair, and tiny muscles called arrector pili that can make the hair stand on end (see Figure 1).

include seborrhea,
sebaceous adenitis, and lick granuloma.
Other breeds that seem to have a genetic predisposition to
sebaceous adenitis
include the Chow Chow, Samoyed, Viszla and Havanese (particularly prone to lesions on the ears) but any dog breed can be affected.

Breed health concerns may
include progressive retinal atrophy, pyloric stenosis,
sebaceous gland tumors, keratocanthoma, hydrocephalus, intervertebral disc disease, entropion (usually lower lids), distichiasis, ectopic cilia, caruncular trichiasis, keratoconjunctivitis sicca («dry eye»), prolapse of the gland of the nictitating membrane («cherry eye»), refractory corneal ulceration and pigmentary keratitis and urolithiasis (calcium oxalate, struvite, silica).
These
include: Lipomas (fatty tumors on dogs),
Sebaceous cysts (skin cysts), warts, hematomas (blood blisters), infected hair follicles, benign tumors, and the dreaded malignant tumor.
OFA costs range from $ 15 for
sebaceous adenitis tests to $ 40 for combined readings of hip and elbow radiographs and do not
include the veterinary fee for taking the radiographs.
I purposefully did not
include a photo of a
sebaceous adenoma simply because one can not «tell a book by its cover.».
I would hate to think that, because of a photo I might have
included, someone might have ignored a cancerous growth because it looked like the benign
sebaceous adenoma I showed in one photo.
Autoimmune skin diseases
include perianal fistula,
sebaceous adenitis, lupus, pemphigus, nail bed disease, and vitiligo.
