State Senator Ken LaValle (R - Port Jefferson) has asked local superintendents to meet with their school's
community members —
including parents, students,
teachers,
and PTAs — to organize their comments
and questions relating to Common Core,
teacher evaluations, standardized testing
and student privacy,
and submit them to his office by last Thursday.
The DOE truly listened over the course of several engaged meetings
and discussions, taking into account our concerns —
including that of over 1,200 parents
and community members who signed the I.S. 109Q Parent
Teacher Association's effective petition against the proposal.
They interviewed, via a web survey, 602

On May 22, 2008 Mount Vernon Middle School Career Day Rebecca Mitchell, M.S.N., C.N.S. spoke to approximately 250 students,
teachers and community members about various career opportunities available in the genetic research
community,
including nursing, advanced practice nursing, bioinformatics, genetic counseling
and translational research.
On Wednesday night, March 16 at 5 pm, the Napa Valley Film Festival presented the 2015 Jury award winning film Romeo is Bleeding to an audience of roughly 200 Napa Valley
community members,
including teachers, high school students,
and parents.
The main activities implemented in the program by the students, under the coordination of their
teacher, are: (1) analysis of the problems of the local Roma
community; (2) selection of a problem for in - depth study by the class, a problem that can be solved through local public policies; (3) collecting information about the problem from various sources,
including members of the Roma
community, public institutions, NGOs, specialists,
and analysis of possible solutions; (4) drafting a public policy that could solve the problem; (4) developing an action plan to influence public authorities to adopt the public policy proposed by the students; (5) organizing a showcase at local level in which students present their projects; (6) reflecting on the learning experience.
«Peer Support Australia places an emphasis on working together with
members of the school
community,

and parents to develop a culture that is cohesive

and how those intentions are enacted; ScratchEd, a model of professional learning for educators who support computational literacy with the Scratch programming language, involving the development of a 25,000 -

community, a network of in - person events,
and curricular materials;
and Cultivating Computational Thinking, an investigation of the concepts, practices,
and perspectives that young people develop through computational design activities.
The flood of comments was a great way to get everyone on the staff —
including teachers, custodians,
and paras — to recognize all the special things that happen in their school
and the special talents that each staff
member brings to the school
community, added Beam.
All adult
members of the school
community,

include a caring atmosphere, significant family volunteering,
and a supportive environment for
teachers «work.158 Widespread trust among participants promotes collaboration within schools
and communities.159 Parental involvement benefits students, particularly; it also seems to benefit families, enhancing their attitudes about themselves, their children «s schools,

Establish a Postsecondary Advisory Council (PAC): Each PAC will set up a dedicated team to lead the college access strategy,
