Despite employing a relatively small percentage of practicing lawyers, «BigLaw» looms large in the popular imagination — and in the minds of
incoming law students who aspire to walk its prestigious (and highly - paid) halls.

income for dependent care assistance that many working parents use to subsidize the skyrocketing costs of child care while they work) or even those
who (like my fantastic
law students at UNLV) are pursuing and paying for higher education.

Now, with responsibility for accountability largely in the hands of states under the updated federal education
law, the question looms: Will California reinstate real accountability to protect its 6.2 million
students who are overwhelmingly low -
income and Spanish - speaking, or will it remain in the shadows?
They say that charter schools also are public schools, as well as fully authorized by state
law, and they work to narrow the achievement gap for many low -
income students who have not thrived in traditional public schools.

While the federal No Child Left Behind

who aspire to graduate from college and enter the middle class.»
Research from MIT, Stanford and Harvard have repeatedly documented that in states with comprehensive charter school
laws, public charter schools outperform traditional public schools, especially those serving
students who are low -
income, living in urban communities, are children of color and are English - language learners.
First, change the tax
laws that (a) restrict couples
who are filing as «married filing jointly» from taking the
student loan interest (SLI) deduction for both loans (right now, married couples can only take $ 2,500 total, even if both are paying and have more than $ 2,500 each in interest, whereas someone
who is single can take $ 2,500 for himself / herself), (b) phase out the SLI deduction at higher
incomes (why should someone making $ 110K be able to take the full $ 2,500, but someone making $ 130K should not?)

law schools focus primarily on communicating a growth mindset message to
law students — be it from professors
who have examined their own mindsets and thereby shifted their expectations and language; 188 through orientation programs that include growth - oriented messages from administrators, professors and guest speakers; 189 by framing assignments and evaluation in terms of process; 190 by professors
who teach legal writing using their expertise in narrative to tell stories that show that legal writing and analysis skills are learned through effort and persistence; 191 by professors and administrators «communicat [ing] that
law school has academic value beyond the first year» and «encourag [ing]
