renewable resources to make a significant contribution to total power needs: When completed, it is expected to

capacity by 20 percent.
OPIC is rapidly
increasing its focus on
renewable energy in Africa: Its 2014 agreement to provide financing and insurance to support construction of the310 - megawatt Lake Turkana wind power plant in northern Kenya, is the largest
renewable power plant it has committed to date in Africa, and has a projected
capacity of almost triple the total
capacity of
renewable energy projects OPIC committed in the prior three years.

The past five years have brought a sea change in urban climate action:
increased awareness of the critical role that local leaders play in carbon reduction; new
capacity in local governments to tackle climate change; and a sharper focus on strategies that advance
energy efficiency,
renewable energy, and clean transportation.
We now have the situation where we are committed to continue heavily subsidising
renewable -
energy projects at a time when excess
capacity is
increasing and prices to non-subsidised power stations (but not to users) are falling.

renewable energy policies and improving cost factors, it's certainly a possibility.
Their specific value for the global future power market comes from the ability to provide dispatchable and firm
capacity through storage and hybridization options to act as a balancing supply in power systems with
increasing shares of fluctuating
renewable energies.

To meet these goals, India will need to
increase the pace of its
renewable energy capacity addition sevenfold, from an average 3GW per year to at least 20GW per year.
In particular, planning for
energy storage can help utilities defer expensive circuit upgrades and
increase grid
capacity to incorporate new
renewable generators.
On the plus side, China plans to
increase its
renewable energy power
capacity by 167GW by 2015, an
increase of 68 % from 2010 at a cost of 1.8 trillion RMB (# 180 billion).
Coupled with significant
increases in both gas and
renewable energy generation, the grid operator expects to have ample
capacity to serve
energy demand through the next decade.
Data confirms that these state
renewable mandates not only drove the explosion of wind generation
capacity development [a nearly five-fold
increase from 2006 to 2011], but also established a guaranteed
increasing future market for wind
energy anticipated to triple in size by 2030 even if the federal PTC expires.
