A team of investigators at Wake Forest University in Winston - Salem, N.C., has developed a tool that accounts for variables such as age and severity of brain injury to help physicians and hospital staff calculate a patient's likelihood of survival and returning to
independence after hospital discharge.
A year
after discharge from the
hospital, patients were questioned about how well they were able to return to
independence in regular activities, including walking, bathing, managing finances, light housework and simple shopping trips.
