In contrast, members of the opposition and numerous
independent media sources highlighted among other things the poor
quality of indelible ink — the first time it was used in a Malaysian election — which could be washed off almost immediately, early voting for servicemen and civil servants, state domination of media and repression of
independent journalists, and perhaps most troubling of all, the mobilization by Barisan Nasional of foreign guest
workers to vote in key constituencies.
