It can be a challenge for
indie authors to sell foreign rights to their titles, particularly the rights
business is dominated by the traditional publishing.
And a ton of problems coming to
authors who
indie publish and don't understand they have taken on a brand - new

Indie publishing is a viable
business model wherein, yes, the
author takes on all the risk, but there's very little outlay.

As critical as ISBNs may sound, some
indie authors have dismissed their importance to their
business, mainly because
authors can sell ebooks through Amazon without ISBNs and even secure distribution without purchasing them.
The best thing that I can say to other
authors thinking of pursuing the
indie - pub path, be it an
author who's just getting started, an
author who's currently traditionally published, or an independent
author looking to improve, is to treat independent publishing as a
business.
While it's by no means necessary or common for all
indie authors to do this (and may not have any effect on sales), it does exhibit a level of professionalism and keeps your
business income and expenses separate from your personal finances.
And for someone who has struggled for a long time with comparison and never feeling «good enough», the
business side of being an
indie author has been emotionally difficult.
Agents are in the
business of selling books, so a manuscript evaluation can give an
indie author great feedback on what will make his book be more successful as he goes about selling it himself.
