Indie authors have made reading exciting again, revitalizing a dying
market.
Perhaps if certain people appreciated the hard work that goes into writing a book AND THEN
marketing it, they might not come down so hard on
Indie authors.
The newest information from the most recent
Author Earnings report includes its usual proof in the pudding of how
indie authors are faring in the current book retail
market, but also includes an interesting topic that hasn't received as much attention due to the availability of months of back data: Kindle Unlimited numbers.
This would be far more understandable a concern if most consumers knew how much an
author's work is stripped away in the editorial process by major publishers, and then understood that self - published
authors often chose to pursue
indie authorship because random gatekeepers had deemed their book wasn't fit or worthy enough for mass
market publication.
Indie authors have to, or should, hire their own editors, cover artists, do their own
marketing, or hire someone to do it for them... and that's if they have the means, and earning back what they put into it is difficult.
