If you're comfortable with your underwater route finding capabilities and swimming skills to get through shallow reef water, this probably won't be necessary but for
inexperienced snorkelers, I think it's a great way to avoid trouble.
This means that on many days, the boats outnumber the whale sharks, creating a literal traffic jam on the water and a risky cocktail of propellers, large animals and
inexperienced snorkelers in an open water environment some 20 miles from shore.
Sometimes a large tarpon passing below
an inexperienced snorkeler or diver will startle the swimmer because of the size and speed of this fish, mistaking it for a shark.
