brain activity and muscle coordination
using artificial intelligence.

brain scans either at 1 - 2 months or at 9 - 10 months: one during a resting period of sleep and a second while native language was presented to the

using electroencephalography (EEG) during each trial of the cognitive task, which took place immediately after a two - second audio clip of an
infant vocalization.
The team
used diffusion neuroimaging to study development of the auditory cortex in the
infants»
brains.
The team examined the brainwave patterns of 36
infants (17 in the first experiment and 19 in the second)
using electroencephalography (EEG), which measures patterns of
brain electrical activity via electrodes in a skull cap worn by the participants.
Scientists
used a type of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), known as diffusion weighted imaging, to measure the
brain connectivity in 260
infants at the ages of 6 and 12 months, who had either high or low risks of autism.
Using data from 58 of the 59
infants, the algorithm picked out the
brain connections that differ between children with and without autism, and that track with scores on any of the behavioral tests.
The algorithm then
used the
brain activity data from the 59th
infant to predict whether she would later be diagnosed with autism.
Fairhurst and colleagues plan on extending these findings by exploring the
brain basis of pleasant touch
using neuroimaging tools and by investigating the psychological effects that pleasant touch has on
infants» social functioning.
«In this study, a new «source analysis» method was
used for the first time to measure functional networks in the
infant brain: with the help of a computer model, the measured EEG signals were interpreted as activity in the
infant cortex, which enabled the evaluation of the functional networking of neurons in a very versatile manner on the cortical level,» says Sampsa Vanhatalo, a professor in clinical neurophysiology and the head of the study.
The forecasted scenarios were
using gene editing to reduce the risk of serious diseases in

For instance, the
use of forceps or vacuum extraction (meant to hasten or facilitate delivery) can cause harm to the

The
infant's head is especially vulnerable to damage without the protection of amniotic fluid, so the improper
use of a vacuum extractor can cause eye injuries, skull fractures, and
brain damage.

brain development in
infants of diabetic mothers
Larry Young, a professor of psychiatry at Emory University who studies the neurological basis of complex social behaviors, thinks human evolution has harnessed an ancient neural circuit that originally evolved to strengthen the mother -
infant bond during breastfeeding, and now
uses this
brain circuitry to strengthen the bond between couples as well.
