Your dog's coprophagia could pose a serious health threat to human because bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli and
infectious parasites from the stool can easily be spread to family members.
As if the itching, scratching and biting caused by fleas weren't bad enough for your dog, these creepy crawly insects are leaving your pet susceptible to
infectious parasites like tapeworms.
A postdoctoral fellow at the University of Padua in Italy, Pernas studies
an infectious parasite called Toxoplasma gondii.
Less common than roundworms, hookworms are
infectious parasites, as well.
Some of that waste contains
an infectious parasite called Toxoplasma gondii, which has recently caused toxoplasmosis epidemics in otherwise healthy people, not only in pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems.

Furthermore, many of these microscopic parasites resist common disinfectants used to clean cages, so they persist in the animals» environments and continuously re-infect these pets as they eat in their cages; the infected pets continue to shed

Domestic cats are also the necessary host for the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis to complete its life cycle and may shed hundreds of millions of
the infectious parasite in its feces.
