Our cases highlight two circumstances in which principals may be more prone to act directly and less collaboratively to
influence school directions for improvement:

In 2010, Elena Narozanski, one of only two special advisers to the Education Secretary, was reportedly told at the meeting Muslim governors were trying to
influence the
direction of some
schools.
But in graduate
school, when he was assigned to tinker with the formulation of a common chemotherapy for leukemia, his family history prompted him to try an experiment of his own, one that would deeply
influence his career
direction.
They have
influence over the curriculum taught, flexibility regarding the use of their funding, including salaries paid to staff, and overall, greater control of the
school's strategic

school personnel said that the previous principal played a more overt coperformance leadership role within those structures than the current principal.
For all the
schools and districts sampled in our study, state and federal curriculum policies, standards, and accountability systems
influenced direction setting pervasively.
In addition, participants will develop the confidence and strategic
direction to promote
school - wide initiatives, which involves organizing and leading diverse groups of people and
influencing a variety of
school and district stakeholders.
«The evidence is not sufficient to lead me to construe the behaviour to be a co-ordinated plan to improperly
influence the
direction or management of
schools serving students of predominantly Islamic faith or background,» he said.

A promising
direction for future prevention studies would be to test a combination of the elementary grade interventions used here with middle
school curricula that seek to promote norms against health - risk behaviors such as drug use and to enhance life skills to resist health - compromising social
influences.3, 6,7,31
