vaccine is safe, induces significantly higher antibody responses, and provides superior
protection against laboratory - confirmed
influenza illness compared to standard dose among persons over 65 years of age.
«Careful consideration of the complexity of
influenza immune
protection and evaluation of all aspects of the anti-
influenza immune responses will ultimately be necessary in the development of a successful broadly protective or universal
influenza vaccine,» the authors said.
When the researchers exposed chickens to lethal doses of the avian
influenza virus and the Newcastle virus, birds inoculated with the recombinant
vaccine produced antibodies against both viruses, offering
protection against both diseases.
