According to its governing principles, the IPCC is ``... to assess

The platform will complement existing GMES / Copernicus pre-operational components, but will focus
on datasets which provide

climate change impacts in Europe, and will provide a toolbox to generate, compare and rank key indicators.
The IPCC says in its own words: «The role of the IPCC is to assess

climate change, its potential
impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.»
It was set up «to prepare, based
on available scientific
information, assessments
on all aspects of
climate change and its
impacts, with a view of formulating realistic response strategies.»
Requires the EPA Administrator to report to Congress by July 1, 2013, and every four years thereafter,
on an analysis of: (1) key findings based
on the latest scientific
information relevant to global
climate change; (2) capabilities to monitor and verify GHG reductions
on a worldwide basis; and (3) the status of worldwide efforts for reducing GHG emission, preventing dangerous atmospheric concentrations of GHGs, preventing significant irreversible consequences of
climate change, and reducing vulnerability to the
impacts of
climate change.
-- Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this subpart, the Secretary of Commerce, acting through the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the Secretary of the Interior, acting through the Director of the United States Geological Survey, shall establish a coordinated process for developing and providing science and
information needed to assess and address the
impacts of
climate change and ocean acidification
on natural resources.
With the completion of the review, the IPCC can now focus fully
on its mandate to assess in a comprehensive, objective, open and transparent basis the scientific, technical and socio - economic
information relevant to understanding the scientific basis of the risks of
climate change, its potential
impacts, and options for adaptation and mitigation,» IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri said.
