U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) scientists, in collaboration with researchers
from the University of Manchester, U.K.; Imperial College, London; University of California San Diego; and the National Institute of Material Science (NIMS), Japan, have demonstrated that confined surface phonon polaritons within hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) exhibit unique metamaterial properties that enable novel nanoscale optical devices for use in optical communications, super-resolution
imaging, and improved
infrared cameras and detectors.

imaging, investigators
from Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Dartmouth, led by Keith Paulsen, PhD with first author Michael Mastanduno and collaborators
from Xijing Hospital in Xian, China, demonstrated that a dual breast exam using MRI and Near

from 54 Piscium and was detected by direct
imaging using NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and the United Kingdom
Infrared Telescope.

High - resolution observations are presented based on direct
imaging, two - dimensional spectropolarimetry with Fabry - Pérot interferometers, and scanning long - slit spectrographs to introduce some of the science cases for high - resolution solar physics: (1) statistical properties of flows in and around pores and sunspots, (2) chromospheric dynamics associated with newly emerging flux, and (3) flare diagnostics
from near -

The photodetector array camera and spectrometer (PACS) aboard the Herschel Space Observatory allows
imaging observations in the far
infrared at unprecedented resolution, i.e. at better than 6» to 12» over the wavelength range of 60 -LCB- \ mu -RCB- m to 210 -LCB- \ mu -RCB- m. Together with the results
from ground - based observations, these spatially resolved data can be modelled to determine the nature of the debris and its evolution more reliably than would be possible
from unresolved data alone.
