One of
the inherent parts of being human is a general dissatisfaction with where we are.

But apart from all this, and in spite
of the fact that «work» and the satisfaction
of wants has usually engaged the greater
part of the attention
of mankind, there
is another form
of activity, peculiar to
human beings, that does not suffer from the defects
inherent in «work» and the satisfaction
of wants: «play.»
If we
are to avoid the threat and attain the promises
inherent in the culminating phase
of this epoch in world history, our requirement
is a massive transformation
of ideas, attitudes, commitments, and goals on the
part of human beings around the globe.
Oh, the Calvinists could make perfect sense
of it all with a wave
of a hand and a swift, confident explanation about how Zarmina had
been born in sin and likely predestined to spend eternity in hell to the glory
of an angry God (they called her a «vessel
of destruction»); about how I should just
be thankful to
be spared the same fate since it
's what I deserve anyway; about how the Asian tsunami
was just another one
of God
's temper tantrums sent to remind us all
of His rage at our sin; about how I need not worry because «there
is not one maverick molecule in the universe» so every hurricane, every earthquake, every war, every execution, every transaction in the slave trade, every rape
of a child
is part of God
's sovereign plan, even God
's idea; about how my objections to this paradigm represented unrepentant pride and a capitulation to humanism that placed too much
inherent value on my fellow
human beings; about how my intuitive sense
of love and morality and right and wrong
is so corrupted by my sin nature I can not trust it.
What I gleaned from these pages, in
part,
is that for Kierkegaard the roots
of the comic lie in the
inherent contradictoriness
of human nature: soul and body, freedom and necessity, the angelic and the bestial, eternity and temporality, and so on.
Did you ever think when you
are typing words, gathering your thoughts, deciding / choosing what to say, and using the best intellect you can find in your brain; that you
are conscious in these thoughts / decisions, and that your eyes / hands / brain synapses,
are all
part of the lense (
of the
human body) that you
are able to see and control to the limitations
inherent in its essence?
The first
part deals with why the individual's right
of freedom to «profess practice and propagate religion», and to convert to another faith and religion
inherent in it,
is a condition and guardian
of all other democratic freedoms and fundamental
human rights in State, society and culture.
Predation
is part of the way nature functions and
humans are indeed
part of nature, but there
is something wrong with the form
of predation that
is inherent in unbridled economic or social competition among
humans.
While it may well
be tax dollars which support institutional and community care and all the other manifold responses to
human need on the
part of our society, the
inherent motivation derives from Christian understanding, and the policy and guidelines reflect a basic Christian concern, Regrettably, there
is no direct ratio any longer — the gears do not engage smoothly!

human nature, but rather a choice, freely exercised at any given moment.

Some degree
of fear
is rather normal given the way
humans approach risk, particularly with something like the risks from radiation, and particularly given
inherent trust that comes from for - profit overlay onto the «common good» and (IMO) laying that fear exclusively at the feet
of environmentalists, or simply labeling it as irrational,
is more a product
of ideologically - driven identity - protective cognition and tribalism on the
part of nuclear proponents than a useful ingredient for making progress on energy policy development.
Caring for another
human being comes from within — and I
am proud to say that my caregiving abilities
are an
inherent part of my nature.
