We have applied DuFour & DuFour's
model of PLCs across the past couple of years to effectively plan for and respond to student data and problems of practice yet at other times we have had teams come together spontaneously an a
cycle of
inquiry to pursue solutions to other problems of practice (the

Rather than conceptualizing this
model as a «program» or specific kind of meeting, teachers should think of a PLC as an «ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively in recurring
cycles of collective
inquiry and action research to achieve better results for the students they serve» (DuFour 2006).
First, districts and schools need to connect policy initiatives to «
cycles of
inquiry,» because
inquiry models can help educators understand policy initiatives as responses to within - school problems.
This Action Research project is firmly grounded in the Reach PTAR or Plan, Teach, Analyze, Reflect,
inquiry cycle induction
model in which novice teachers are paired with an expert mentor who supports their growth over a period of two years as they work towards their California Clear Teaching Credential.
In the new evaluation
model, the teacher is the driver of the growth
cycle: self - assessing, engaging in
inquiry around teaching practice with colleagues, reflecting and beginning this
cycle again.
Our
model uses teacher - led
cycles of
inquiry focused on study of the curriculum.
