Without a readiness to be renewed by the experiences and
insights of other traditions, a church and its members are not inclined to receive the results of a dialogue.
I would also try not to base my theological reading of current world history so narrowly in my own Christian tradition, but would try to draw on
the insights of other traditions, as we must all increasingly do at a time when the world religions elbow each other in unprecedented closeness.

And yet, even this limitation is not without its usefulness, for it can surely lead to the appreciative evaluation
of other, non-Western expressions
of the meaning and destiny
of human existence without thereby relinquishing
insights to be gained by attention to Christian history and
tradition.
Hartshorne himself writes with large strokes, with sweeping
insight - his concern is to state his vision
of God and then to look outward to
other traditions and show the superiority
of his own conception
of God to alternative conceptions.

And the determination
of what is appropriate for Christian theology involves more than interpretation
of «scripture and
tradition»; it also involves consideration
of how and in what direction the Spirit that animated Christian existence in the past will move in the new situational context, in which consideration
insights are also drawn from
other sources, religious and secular.
Confessional
traditions still tend to appeal dogmatically and exclusively to their versions
of the gospel while failing to learn from the
insights of others.
The universal relevance
of their own
insights is vindicated as
other traditions acknowledge their value.
It is only insofar as a
tradition claims universal relevance that its exclusion
of the
insights of others is problematic in terms
of its own norms.
The comprehensiveness and human adequacy
of their
traditions is enlarged as they assimilate the
insights of others.

of the following criteria, which are weighed equally: How well a project aligns with the MAP Fund's goal
of supporting experimentation and innovation in all
traditions and disciplines
of live performance, especially work that brings
insight to the issue
of cultural difference, be that in class, gender, generation, race, religion, sexual orientation or
other aspects
of diversity The artistic strength
of the proposed project The viability
of the project, based on the applicant's professional capabilities as demonstrated in the project narrative, bio and artist statement, and work samples.
