The infall shock, at the surfaces of the protostar and the swirling nebular disk surrounding it, arrests the inflow, creating
an intense radiation field that tries to work its way out of the infalling envelope of gas and dust.
Specifically it covers particle interaction with the metals and alloys used in nuclear reactor cores and hence subject to
intense radiation fields.

NASA might choose to extend it, but the spacecraft could still succumb any day to the
intense radiation from the deadly halos of high - energy particles trapped around the planet by magnetic
fields.
The gauntlet Juno ran at Jupiter held many chances for catastrophe: The spacecraft might have been knocked out by
intense magnetic
fields (at that distance, 20 times stronger than Earth's), ionizing
radiation (a total dose of 265 rads — more than enough to kill a human being), dust particles from Jupiter's rings (from which the main engine was completely unshielded) or loss of power if the solar arrays were unable to reorient to the sun.
Among its discoveries: an
intense radiation belt above Jupiter's cloud tops, helium in about the same concentration as the Sun, extensive and rapid resurfacing of the moon Io because of volcanism and a magnetic
field at Ganymede.
The peroxide is created by the
intense radiation processing of Europa's surface ice that comes from the moon's location within Jupiter's strong magnetic
field.
Radio astronomers discovered
intense belts of
radiation surrounding Jupiter created by electrons trapped in its powerful magnetic
field — 10x the Earth's!
Undulators, with small and low
field bending, create a narrower
radiation cone with more
intense beam, with selected wavelengths or harmonics, which can be tuned by manipulating the magnetic
field of the device by changing the gap.
But pulsars emit gamma rays, and scientists such as KIPAC's Roger Romani can study these to measure their rotation and understand how high - energy
radiation is generated in their
intense magnetic
fields.
As we still slowly ascended... and the surface temperature of the soil fell to the freezing point the solar
radiation became
intenser... near the summit the temperature in a copper vessel, over which lay two sheets of plain window glass, rose above the boiling point of water, and it was certain that we could boil water by the solar rays in such a vessel among the snow
fields.
