Mark - Viverito has previously said she is
not interested in running for the seat next year, even as she raises money for a 2017 campaign account and is planning a birthday fund - raiser in April.
Her fundraising email comes as Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer has expressed
an interest in running for the seat.
Soon after Sen. John Bonacic announced his retirement plans at the end of the current term on Friday, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec indicated he would be
interested in running for the seat.
That's a big deal because at least five Republicans have expressed
interest in running for the seat.
Antoine Thompson, a former candidate for Erie County Legislature, current top aide to Sen. (Mark) Grisanti, and son of Supreme Court Judge Paula Ferroletto, has expressed
interest in running for the seat.
The result: A victory for a celebrity who doesn't live in the district and likely does not have
an interest in running for the seat (For what it is worth, Trump herself does appear to live in the district, though she would not be required to should she formally run for the seat).
Several Republicans have expressed
interest in running for the seat.
Another contender, Dina Falcone, said she is
interested in running for the seat.
Both Republican District Attorney Daniel Donovan and state Sen. Andrew Lanza (R - Staten Island) have not said they are
interested in running for the seat but their names have been mentioned in political circles.
Three local Democrats have expressed
interest in running for the seat — Syracuse Common Councilors Pamela Hunter and Jean Kessner, and former Onondaga County Legislator David Stott, of Salina.
A current and a former elected Democratic official are among those who have expressed
interest in running for the seat, including former Bloomfield mayor and state treasurer Joseph Suggs and state Rep. Doug McCrory, 7th District - Hartford.
Baldridge said he's not aware of any other Democrats who have announced
an interest in running for the seat.
Harlem Assemblyman Keith Wright said he would form an exploratory committee to run and Clyde Williams, a 2012 candidate, recently met with Mr. Rangel about
his interest in running for the seat again.
