geology — and the intellectual geography — of upstate New York, it was no surprise that Ithaca became a center of the debate — and that the swirling debate began to
interest faculty at some of the
local institutions: Ithaca College's Sandra Steingraber, for instance, and some of Cornell's best scientists.
