Best Use of In Situ Classical Statuary by a Contemporary Artist: Nicole Eisenman's Carnegie Prize - winning installation at this year's Carnegie International for her show within a show interspersing her own paintings and plaster sculptures among marble figures in the museum's permanent collection

Borg el Amal (Tower of Hope), Baladi's ephemeral construction and sound installation, won the first prize at the 2008 - 09 Cairo International Contemporary Art Biennale.

Notable US - based exhibitions include a yearlong art expedition centered around a canoe trip up the Hudson River for Peekskill Project V at the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, a multimedia participatory installation at Conflux Festival 2010 in NYC, solo exhibitions at Romer Young Gallery, San Francisco, and Vox Populi Gallery, Philadelphia, and group exhibitions at the International Print Center New York, N.A.D.A. Miami, Contemporary Art Center, Las Vegas, Flux Factory, Queens NY, and Corcoran Gallery of Arts, Washington DC.

Exhibiting works from both national and international contemporary artists (in parallel to the permanent collection), G2 «# 6 New Acquisitions» includes paintings, works on paper, photographs and installations by Judith Bernstein, Melissa Gordon, Anne Imhof, Jeanette Mundt, Raymond Pettibon, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané and Rirkrit Tiravanija to name just a few.

Programs in the drill hall include the North American stage premiere of Louis Andriessen's De Materie, directed by composer Heiner Goebbels and featuring the International Contemporary Ensemble in a visually dramatic production incorporating music, dance, and spoken word; a new commission by visual artist and musician Martin Creed that marks his largest installation in the U.S. to date and reimagines the Armory's drill hall and period rooms in a surprising meditation on existence; a major new work by artist Taryn Simon that explores rituals of grief and mourning; and Circle Map, a program of ambitious spatial works by composer Kaija Saariaho that features the New York Philharmonic.

The Astrup Fearnley Museum's collection comprises paintings, sculptures and installations by some of the most important international contemporary artists; established in the 1960s with a particular focus on American art, the collection's focus has been widened in the last years to include also works by renowned European, Brazilian, Japanese, Chinese, and Indian artists.
