At bottom, our differences reflect two fundamentally contrasting hermeneutical strategies: does a given text make more sense when
interpreted as part of the entire
work to which it belongs or as
interpreted as part of some
particular stratum of that
work?
Most theological authors are specialists: one
interprets the scriptural foundations for preaching and teaching, another explains how to «manage» ministry, and others confine themselves to some
particular subsection of parish life — liturgy, youth
work, pastoral...
The difference in settings is important because the Church faced the task of taking the words of Jesus to a
particular audience and presenting them as the word of the Lord in a new situation.2 It took both wisdom and courage for the Church to assume this awesome burden of
interpreting, but to have failed to do so out of an overwhelming reverence for quotations from Jesus would have ended the
work Jesus began.

Work on astrophysical theory to
interpret space - based observations receives little support from NASA, for instance, because it's not related to a
particular mission, while NSF managers focus on ground - based data.
For instance, in addition to knowing how to compute, a teacher may need to know why and how specific mathematical procedures
work, how best to define a term for children at a
particular grade level, or how to
interpret, remediate, or prevent students» errors.
In
particular, Meredith Honig and Nitya Venkateswaran argue that school practitioners
work with data and evidence within a context in which other related actors, especially at the central offices of school systems, are also interacting and
interpreting the same data as part of their job responsibilities.
Two UK exhibitions last year were of
particular note: the ambitious but skewed Peace and Freedom at Tate Liverpool, which
interpreted the

Behaviour change is widely acknowledged to be difficult to achieve by those
working in health promotion, and models of behaviour change developed to describe and support changes in health related lifestyles (smoking cessation, exercise participation) may be helpful in
interpreting the results of this trial.38, 39 In
particular, positive change followed by relapse is not uncommon.
