into Sonic Forces first level you notice a few issues.

So, to save everyone the grief of having to choose between a negative
Sonic Cycle and a positive one for
Sonic Forces, I married the two
into one new
Sonic Cycle to make things fair for the entire fanbase.
From its opening stage,
Sonic Forces displays a number of issues that are emblematic of the journey ahead: Its insistent tutorial messages interrupt your initial sprint down a winding road, the cinematic transition sequences that take you from one path the next that renders you an observer, not an active participant, and right as you're about to settle
into the glee of your mad dash forward, the stage ends.
Eggman in
Forces says that Classic
Sonic is from «another dimension», and the True Ending of
Sonic Mania shows
Sonic and the Ruby being sucked
into a portal.
Sonic Forces on the other hand seemed to flop really hard, so we can't imagine SEGA are eager to pump more money
into that game even if we are expecting a Super
Sonic «real» ending to show up soon.
SEGA certainly does love their
Sonic memes, so it's no surprise to see them plopping it
into Forces.
Sonic Forces is a diamond in the rough, all it needs is work to be put
into it.
The main gameplay of
Sonic Forces is divided
into thirty distinct levels, which are separated
into four different types of stage.
Sonic is a long - running and beloved franchise with polarizing entries, so
Forces «attempt to meld a majority of the past mechanics
into one game has its own level of questionable complexity.
Sonic Forces: Speed Battle throws you
into four - player online battles, in which you and three others run automatially forward and need to dodge obstacles as you go.
At one point, you meet up with former mascot Alex Kidd, who's been
forced into retail work after
Sonic the Hedgehog took his job.
Completely ignoring the irony that
Sonic's primary gameplay mechanic is turning himself
into a blue ball, SEGA has taken their love of the ladies to a new level this weekend at the Tokyo Game Show by announcing a partnership with the Hooters restaurant chain to promote the upcoming release of
Sonic Forces.
The dragon that proceeds to whip its tail and thrash its wings to
force blocks to fall
into the foreground on top of
Sonic.
As someone who first got
into the franchise with
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle all those years ago, there was one thing about
Sonic Forces I very much looked forward to ever since I bore witness to it behind - the - scenes at PAX West: the long - awaited return of Shadow.
To reflect the three different styles of play, like
Sonic Generations before, the Tomoya Ohtani - led soundtrack of
Forces is split
into three separate genres.
But as it stands,
Sonic Forces is a 7/10; A fairly good glimpse
into Sonic's 3D future and it seems to be back on the right path.
Sonic Forces is the latest main entry
into the
Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, which promises to take
Sonic Generations game play ideas, add a custom character and an actual storyline.
Because each level in
Sonic Forces: Speed Battle is, essentially, a race track, the team has created small, inter-connecting segments of each track, such as rails, loops or split paths etc. and put them
into Unity as separate pieces.
All the good will established through Mania has seemingly run straight
into a brick wall with
Sonic Forces, a title whose potential seems continuously squandered through a rushed, unpolished execution.
