I am getting
into buying audibles on
books that are very long and / or hard reads so that i can multi task and do
other things and read at the same time.
If you want to watch specific movies / series you sometimes have to pay to multiple suppliers which gets really expensive), hardware restrictions (you
bought music that won't play in your car, so you have to rip it, or you
bought a
book from Amazon, and want to use it on another reader with
other technical features, so you need to remove the drm and convert it
into epub).
A year and a half after this post was written, I have discovered that
other people have discovered that John Locke paid for reviewers — and also talked his reviewers
into buying his

Not true at all, you can
buy the amazon
books which usually have the best price, but if you want to
buy them somewhere else (ibooks or even kobostore) or get them for free on project gutenberg or any
other source all you have to do is to load them on an app called calibre (available for mac, linux and windows) which will automatically convert the
books into the more appropriate format and send them by email to amazon cloud which will make them appear almost imediatly in your kindle.
Even though I own a Nook and could still
buy and read stuff from B&N, being able to back stuff up is so important to me that I'm now looking
into other options for

It was powerful, even at an early age, because unconsciously I'd already

Other optimisations of Sony's are largely about hooking you
into Sony services: Sony Video Unlimited is a movie store that lets you rent and
buy digital movies; Music Unlimited is a Spotify - like streaming service; and Reader by Sony is an ebook reader that also handily nudges you towards
buying books from the Sony Reader store.
We need the readers to
buy our
books, but for us authors to make a sustainable, long - term living out of writing we have to convince people to
buy all or most of the
books we write, in
other words,
buy into us.
After all, when you

book from oreilly.com you're
buying access to all the popular formats (mobi, EPUB and PDF, as well as
others), not just the one format a device - maker wants to lock you
into.
I am happy Amazon and
other vendors opened the e-book avenue, hopefully less authors will get sucked
into buying their own
books.
It could be their editor, agent, or publicist;
other writers and peers who helped provide guidance or make introductions; bookstore owners, librarians, and reviewers who spread the word; or the readers themselves who didn't just
buy the
book, but connected with the author, each
other, and helped turn the
book into a conversation.
One reason is that it also helps address a big objection that's been levelled against Amazon's Kindle, namely that its proprietary format and limited support for any
other content formats locks you
into using a Kindle once you've
bought your
books.
You could extrapolate and say that they will be less likely to
buy other things from Amazon, and that if Amazon were to later turn the Kindle
into a channel that sells everything, these library
book lovers would be far less interested.
I don't normally promote or share my fiction stuff with my non-fiction audience (because you want real readers
buying your
books, not
other authors), but it makes a LOT of sense to incentivize scifi and fantasy authors
into sharing
books with their audience to win free
book promotion or author services.
So even though folks
buy more
books, decreasing the price on ebooks won't necessarily translate
into more sales or more profits for the authors; instead, the money that would have gone
into buying the
book may be used for
other forms of entertainment, such as eating or having running water.
If you put a
Book 1
into a boxed set, some of the readers may go on to
buy your
other books, and because numerous authors are promoting the set or anthology, it should get more exposure than it would if you were just promoting your own stuff.
You still have to do enough promotion to get a title
into the Top 100 of your category, otherwise it's not getting any kind of visibility boost, especially if it's a newer title and isn't in many
