If you downloaded the PDF version, you can still use Calibre to convert
into kindle format — However, it doesn't always work due to some image related issues.
The pages are actually in jpeg format I believe and I am uncertain as to how this would convert
into kindle format.

Not true at all, you can buy the amazon books which usually have the best price, but if you want to buy them somewhere else (ibooks or even kobostore) or get them for free on project gutenberg or any other source all you have to do is to load them on an app called calibre (available for mac, linux and windows) which will automatically convert the books
into the more appropriate
format and send them by email to amazon cloud which will make them appear almost imediatly in your
kindle.
Using these two softwares; Sigil and Calibre, you can now save a lot of time in
formatting your ebook
into epub and
kindle format.
I know
Kindle does nt support EPUB but couldnt you convert EPUB documents using calibre
into a
format that
kindle recognizing?

I'm a bit scared that the next step will be automated conversion of PDF
into proprietary
kindle formats with expiration and DRM so you don't keep readings beyond the class ending, can't save them, etc..
These days, B & iN is a useful publicly - available bathroom, and I can use my phone to photograph interesting books I can get in
kindle format and use Calibre to stuff them
into my phone as ePubs.
