While there may never be a substitute for hands - on learning,
here are a few lessons my colleagues and I wish we had learned in
law school to make the transition
into the world of «lawyering» easier.
That's also in part because, people
here, you tend to go from high
school into law school.
On the other hand, the Washington LLLT must attend
law school CLE classes at great expense and complete 3,000 hours as discussed
here and are not allowed
into court.
«The only real legal innovation
here is the vertical integration of having a
law school that can crank out more students they can feed
into the LPP.»
Should we not be counting the very significant numbers of Canadian students attending foreign
law schools (possibly because they could not get
into Canadian
schools) then wanting to article
here?
«I have argued
here that sentencing is the most «under - taught» class in
law schools, and I am not at all surprised that sentencing has not jumped
into HLS's mandatory curriculum.
This month's cover story, and really a lot of the talk of the town
here in Ontario, centres on the shortage of articling spaces for all the lawyers in training graduating from
law school and wanting to get
into the practice of
law — or at least who want to get called to the bar so they can tick it off their list of accomplishments and then go on to run a successful enterprise using their
law -
school smarts!
Here's the rub, though: If and when — and given the money to be made from the rankings industry, one assumes that's it's going to be «when» — US News & World Report, the ranker in chief of U.S.
law schools, starts incorporating GRE scores
into its methodology, then all that is «bad» about the LSAT will come to be replicated.
A couple of other points mentioned in the report: there are high numbers of Canadian students training in
law schools overseas (US, UK, Australia) who come back
into the market
here, and would train in this country if there were places for them, so to that extent opening a new
school doesn't increase the supply of
law graduates.

law school faculty
into a workshop - like environment where we are going to start the conference on Thursday morning so the academic track runs Thursday and Friday of TECHSHOW with the goal at the and of Friday being if we were going to have a template to start with for what a practice management curriculum would look like in the
law school, what could it look like?
