Returning to the show this year, we have the FASNA sponsored MAT Summit, providing a unique insight
into governance and best - practice and available funding for
Multi Academy Trusts.
Whether we like it or not, it appears that more and more schools will become «married» as part of a
Multi Academy Trust in the years ahead; leaving behind their relative independence (and the varying quality of parenting provided by different Local Authorities) in order to enter
into an often polygamous lifelong partnership with other schools.
Trusts are now placed
into four tiers depending on size: Starter trusts,
multi ‑
academy trusts (MATs) with up to five
academies, all of which are in the same region; Established trusts, MATs with between six and 15
academies in the same region; Regional trusts, MATs with between 16 and 30
academies, which operate across regions; and System trusts, MATs with over 30
academies which may be located across the country.
