In the so - called practical fields the unity is even greater; here there is common concern for developing relevant, effective preaching in the local church on the basis of Scriptures; for a religious education Christian rather than either humanistic or denominational in character; for guiding men
into pastoral work that meets human needs.

This raises the critical question of encouraging pastors to manage their
work in ways that take
into account both their particular skills and capacities and the full breadth of demands and tasks that make up
pastoral ministry.
If our
pastoral practice is driving people
into despair, even to the point of taking their own lives, you don't have to be an Oxbridge ethics professor to
work out that there is something wrong with the theology that informs it.
