James: So moving onto the second pathway of the book which is «keep learning», in your opinion what are some of the right and wrong reasons for going
into postgraduate study?
One reason for genuinely considering going
into postgraduate study is if the career you want requires it.
Towards the end of my undergraduate degree, I remember being faced with the choice of what to do next — go straight into a job, continue
into postgraduate study, or go travelling?
However, there are quite a lot of things that you need to consider before you take the plunge
into postgraduate study.
The important thing is to «think before you leap»
into postgraduate study, and then talk to those people in the workplace who are likely to be important to your study.
Academia is far from the only career path available for those looking
into postgraduate studies.
