intricacies and nuances
of the many - splendored personalities that populated the city then.
Permeated by an aura
of eroticism and decadence, and loaded with codes and double - meanings, the works further point to the
intricacies of self -
identity, while celebrating moments
of transformation — the ordinary becoming extraordinary.
Emerging from the infamous «Kowalski Studio» at the Warsaw Academy
of Fine Arts, Althamer continues to investigate the
intricacies of human relationships and question the limits and deeper meaning
of individual and social
identity.
The work I have brought together for the Biennial reflects this, whether through complex relationships between linguistic and visual forms; the interface
of digital technologies with more traditional media, and the recorded past with the lived moment; the development
of two - dimensional scores, scripts, and patterns into three - or even four - dimensional actions and environments; the challenging
of binary conventions
of gender; or the
intricacy of cosmopolitan, cross-national
identities.
I also emphasize the importance
of the
intricacies of each person in the many
identities they hold.»
