October has finally arrived, and I figured it was the perfect time to glean fashion inspiration from a
movie that both
intrigued and scared the bejeezus out
of 8 -
year - old me: The Craft.
And based on the trailers released thus far, which showcase its marriage
of art house and mainstream sensibilities, «Snowpiercer» is living up to its promise as one
of the
year's most
intriguing movies.
From an early
year Spielberg
movie to a meaningful Marvel film this
year has a lot
of intrigue.
Guest director Joshua Oppenheimer, whose wrenching «The Act
of Killing» debuted at TFF in 2012, has put together an eclectic program that includes Werner Herzog's 1970 «Even Dwarfs Started Small» (with Herzog in attendance), Jon Bang Carlsen's
intriguing and obscure «Hotel
of the Stars» (1981), an hour - long Danish documentary about extras who live in a shabby apartment hotel in Hollywood; the only
movie directed by Charles Laughton, 1955's exquisitely - shot «The Night
of the Hunter,» starring a brilliant, terrifying Robert Mitchum, and fortuitously playing in his centenary
year; «Salam Cinema,» Mohsen Makmalbaf's 1995 record
of auditions by aspiring actors; a new print
of Frederick Wiseman's long - banned, corrosive «Titicut Follies» (1967), filmed in a notorious Massachusetts hospital for the criminally insane; and Jacques Demy's glorious, gorgeous musical, «The Umbrellas
of Cherbourg» (1967), starring the glorious, gorgeous Catherine Deneuve.

intrigued us, and stayed with us this

There is something definitely
intriguing about a
movie that boasts the Working Title production name (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Love Actually) and Dan Mazer, the writer
of Borat (Mazer has collaborated with Sacha Baron Cohen on multiple projects and I Give It a
Year is his directorial debut).
Though it received mixed reactions when the
movie premiered earlier this
year at Sundance, the concept is
intriguing enough that I'm willing to give it the benefit
of the doubt.
Sean Baker's The Florida Project was a revelatory experience, both in and
of itself and because
of the fact that it so fully realized the promise
of American place - specific reality - based fiction cinema after so many
years of films with
intriguing passages and situations that never quite add up to an entire satisfying
movie.

As far as science fiction
movies go, Andrew Niccol's «In Time» features one
of the more
intriguing premises in recent
years, which only makes its poor execution that much more disappointing.
Of course, for 14 -
year - olds who need something on the screen while they Snapchat from inside a
movie theater, the
movie works sorta perfectly, a distraction that barely counts as horror but throws enough curveballs to keep them
intrigued while waiting for messages back from their friends.
A couple
of intriguing movies about the

year's schedule.

movies of Michelle are shutter Island and Me Without You (not very known, but if you find it, you should watch it, for the story, for Michelle, the music) so i look forward to see her in All The Money In The World (December 27 in france) and The Greatest Showman (End
