When people think of sleep training, they typically assume
it involves letting their baby cry for some period of time.
Just the sound of the Cry It Out (CIO) method may make you cringe, but there are many ways to approach it and none
involve letting your baby cry endlessly without you going in her room.
The ideas do not
involve letting your baby cry — not even for a minute.
Most families use some version of the method popularized by Richard Ferber, which
involves letting the baby cry but returning to comfort her at gradually increasing intervals.

Deciding not to breastfeed on demand at night may
involve having a
baby cry, but a parent can offer other kinds of reassurance, such as back - rubbing and talking,
letting the child know you are there.
Not surprisingly this method has often been misunderstood as
involving simply
letting the
baby cry until he or she goes to sleep.
I think there are ways to crib sleep a
baby that doesn't
involve crying it out, & I don't think every person who crib sleeps their children
let them
cry it out.
And all of this with very little
crying involved; Jo doesn't believe in
letting babies become distressed and her technique
involved comforting our little boy as well as training him.
