By the time these cats are experiencing advanced kidney disease, more than half will have low blood
ionized calcium levels despite one in five having high total blood calcium levels (yes, I know it is confusing).
A beneficial juice for individuals prone to recurrent kidney stones is cranberry juice, which has been shown to reduce the amount of
ionized calcium in urine by about 50 percent in patients with kidney stones (high urinary
calcium levels greatly increase the risk of developing a kidney stone).
Such tests include but are not limited to infectious disease titers, thyroid hormone analysis (T4, fT4, T3, TSH), specialized liver tests (blood ammonia), Cushing's disease or Addison's disease tests (such as basal cortisol
level, ACTH stimulation test, HDDS or LDDS tests, dexamethasone suppression test), insulin: glucose ratio, pancreas - assessment tests (PLI, TLI, cobalamin, folate), creatinine kinase,
ionized calcium, PTH or PTHrP, SDMA for renal assessment, serum protein electrophoresis, tests to assess blood clotting (PT, PTT, ACT, TT, FDPs, D - dimers), and blood gas measurements.
