You can apply for

What I don't get (as my previous book was published through a publisher) is if I am allowed to do sell my own book and give away a flip book version when it is also being sold through amazon, and whether the solution is that I should I use my
own ISBN number for all versions of the book, or a different one for my free download book?
Today I followed a link provided by David Gaughran to a website run by Bowker (the exclusive provider
of ISBN numbers in the U.S.).
In Canada, we are fortunate to be able to get free
ISBNs from the government, so I used that service, and am not bound to only selling through Amazon.
Chief among those new features is the introduction of
free ISBN numbers for self - published authors, a huge step in making publishing truly available to everyone.
I always use
ISBNs on print books, and sometimes I also assign them to ebooks.
Large publishers buy
ISBNs in bulk (one thousand or ten thousand at a time), which allows them to be purchased at a much cheaper unit rate.
Unfortunately, we
use ISBNs assigned by CreateSpace, so I won't be able to use IngramSpark.
Deleting your title will permanently delete your free
assigned ISBN number.
If you have not
purchased ISBNs from Bowker and assigned one to this ebook, you will leave this box blank.
Add to that the cost of
buying ISBNs on a case - by - case basis ($ 125 each at the time of this writing, or you can buy them at bulk at 10 for $ 250), and that's a lot of extra cost for something that nets you no real benefit from the start.

If you publish a print book as well, then your paperback and hardback will need different
ISBNs as well.
We can supply a
new ISBN if you want a new one.
Ingram still charges for ISBNs [they always were free], their proofs are expensive and unnecessarily difficult to produce, and their procedures are archaic for presses that are no longer used.
You can still assign them your own
ISBN if you want to, but they will also be catalogued under that platform's own numbering system.
Add a unique
ISBN barcode for your book so retail stores can identify your book in the marketplace and report your sales accordingly.
If you require us to change the copyright page of your PDF file so it incorporates your Electronic
Book ISBN then this will incur an additional charge of $ 35.00
e-book publishers seem to be quite willing to ignore the strictures about
different ISBN numbers for different ebook formats and rightly so.
They have an easy - to - use interface which allows you to search for books
by ISBN number or title.
You can have the SAME FILE and
SAME ISBN at CreateSpace AND INgram Spark.
Publishers produced 149,800 new books and new editions in 2011, down from the 2009 high point of 157,039 and down from last year's 151,959; this was despite the growing number of e-books published with
separate ISBNs from their print equivalents.
If you buy your own
ISBN through Bowker, you can load the exact same book onto multiple platforms.
Each format of each book you publish must have its own
unique ISBN so you'll need several of them if you plan to publish one book in multiple formats or more than one book, in which case, the block of ten is your best buy, even if you only use three or four of them.
1) Ebook Cover Design 2) Print Book Cover Design 3) Print Book Formatting 4) Ebook Book Formatting (Kindle) 5) Paperback and Kindle Book on sale on Amazon 6) Expanded Distribution via Amazon's connection to online and offline retailers in addition to libraries (using
createspace isbn only)
If you are trying to hit a bestseller list, you should never use the distributor -
provided ISBNs because you need to use the same one on each platform so all your sales are counted.
In other countries, such as New Zealand, you can
obtain ISBNs free.
* (By the way — most indie publishers don't use the dinosaur
ISBN system because it's unnecessary and meaningless and overpriced therefore their (quite copious) sales are not being recorded for the purposes of this article.)

Once you have an IngramSpark account, you can purchase
single ISBNs directly through your dashboard.
These percentages are based on the number of
ISBNs issued by Bowker and outlined in the October 2014 press release, Self - Publishing Continues to Grow in the U.S., Says Bowker.
As part of its duty to the
International ISBN Agency Bowker collects information about books published in the United States.
More than 80 % of self -
published ISBNs came through just eight self - publishing houses last year.
Do I suggest that you run out and buy a 100 block of
ISBNs so you can be «ready»?
Plus, this doesn't
include ISBN registrations for traditionally published works.

Conversely, if the rights of your traditionally published book revert to you, you'll want to assign that book a new
ISBN identifying yourself as the owner / publisher.
