NexGard ® (afoxolaner), Bravecto ® (fluralaner) and Symparica ® (sarolaner) all contain similar related compounds (
isoxazolines).
The active substance of BRAVECTO, fluralaner, an ectoparasiticide belonging to
the isoxazoline group, is systemically active against fleas and ticks.
The isoxazoline products are oral medications labeled to kill fleas and ticks in dogs.
While flea control is important during treatment of demodectic mange, ideally
an isoxazoline product should be used as these have additional effectiveness against Demodex mites (see below).
There is no issue with the MDR1 mutation with
the isoxazoline products, which makes them particularly attractive for the herding breeds, though ivermectin still wins when it comes to expense.
Recent research has shown that
the isoxazolines also have anti-Demodex mite activity.
You can read more about them here These four
isoxazoline - containg flea control products are the newest entrants in the flea and tick - control wars.
The latest products are
the isoxazolines, NexGard ®, Bravecto ® and Simparica ®.
