Gov. Phil Scott says he's confident that he'll be able to reach an agreement with Democratic leaders in an upcoming Special Session over
the issue of education spending.
While they worked to resolve the impasse over the yeshiva issue, Cuomo and legislative leaders appeared to reach agreements on most other issues, including the crucial
issue of education spending.

of education for students, and holding state officials accountable for how they
spend taxpayers» money is aligned with the Coalition's point
of views.

issue with Cuomo's deep health care and
education spending cuts while giving wealthy New Yorkers a «massive tax break» by allowing the temporary three - year PIT increase to expire on schedule at the end
of this year.
NYSUT and Cuomo have been at odds on a variety
of issues ranging from the tax cap, to the state's
education spending formula and the ongoing debate over the state's teacher performance evaluation law.
The budget itself includes a number
of political trip wires, from criminal justice reform, to transit
issues for New York City,
education spending and gun control.

issues of national defence, on the
issue of the union, on the
issue of grammar school
education, on
issues of healthcare, taxation, the cost
of living and defence
spending?
In the governor's statement
issued Sunday, Mr. Cuomo kept up his strong words in trying to address what he described as «decades
of leading the nation in
education spending but lagging in results.»
The mayor has so far been muted in his criticism
of the governor and his budget, declining to attack him in public, although he did
issue a statement calling the zeroing out
of NYC's revenue - sharing aid on top
of the
education spending cuts «unfair.»
Outlining the city's new
spending initiatives, including investments in public safety,
education, anti-homelessness services, transportation, infrastructure and the Board
of Elections, Fuleihan said the executive budget, «makes investments that address longstanding structural
issues that affect all New Yorkers.»
Word
of the possible commission came as Cuomo conceded that the DREAM Act and an
education investment tax credit — two other
issues that he had included in his proposed budget — would likely not be included in the final
spending plan.
