California voters will go to the polls this fall to decide controversial
issues of teacher tenure and school funding in a special election that will test the strength of the state teachers» unions in their ongoing conflict with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Where do Americans come down on
the issue of teacher tenure?
In the few instances when researchers have focused on
the issue of teacher tenure specifically, they have generally sought to document the costs and benefits of tenure, make normative arguments about whether tenure should or should not be abolished, or propose specific ways in which tenure policies could be improved.
For example,
the issue of teacher tenure was raised and Guggenheim declared that all teachers get tenure after two years and can't be fired.
