As much as some people despise seeing them, I actually
really love that the Koopalings seem to be getting personalities and social dynamics (between this
game and Paper
Jam), something we only ever had in comics and cartoons before now.
We wanted the player to experience everything while they play the
game and if you just
jam through the
game you'll see a lot of action and emotion, but if you play through the
game and check out the world it
really creates a fuller, rounder experience that is pretty emotionally compelling.
As you gather up more capital the
game doesn't
really add anything new or particularly exciting, rather it just gets bigger as you can afford huge fuselages into which you can
jam even more stuff, like multiple engines, advanced navigation suites and more.
This puts consumers buying a Pro in a bit of a
jam though... it means they are paying extra for a box that
really isn't going to show a difference for the vast majority of
games they play on it vs other platforms.
I was sick during the entire previous
game jam I attended and spent most of my time asleep, so I
really felt like getting my revenge and making a proper
game this time around.
Like any open world
game, though, the expansive freedom you have to play and explore comes at the cost of bugs: a few times, we noticed the AI get
jammed into a tree, or through a wall, or get
really confused by a shin - high obstacle between us and them.
It's simple,
really: last year's
Jam was a great
game, and this year's iteration takes out the weak parts, works on the strong ones and hits a price point that largely negates the complaints you could have.
Chapters 1 - 14 are extremely easy and that's because it's a button masher just guide spider - man to the enemy you want to kill and
jam the x button and I guess the people who made this
game wanted this
game to be at least a little bit harder because you can buy upgrades and combos that I don't
really use because you can win by
jamming the x button xxxxxxxxxxxxxx that's the combat!
The idea was floating around long before we'd heard about the [«I Am A
Gamer»]
game jam, which was based thematically around strong female protagonists... Instead of spending a long weekend on the project like most of the jammers did, we decided to take two weeks and make a slightly larger project, to
really test our skills as (new) devs.

So, for those who don't
really know what to expect from an NBA
Jam game, well expect a very exaggerated
game of basketball in which elbowing your opponents, setting the ball on fire (by netting it three times in a row) and huge dunks are very much a part of.
Indeed, NBA
Jam is a
game that should
really be played in multiplayer and thankfully all the modes allow for at least two people to play together.
Sports
Jam is one of those
games I rarely see in the wild, not that it's necessarily a rare
game, but it just doesn't seem to be sold at most places, so I'm
really happy to add that to my collection.
But at the end of the
Game Jam, after 48 hours of hard work and no playtests, we didn't
really know what we had and if it actually works.
The first console Madden
game was on the SNES, though it was a much bigger deal on the Genesis (True of NBA
Jam, too, and
really most sports
games come to think of it.)
Game jams are also quite common in the nordic region and we
really appreciate those events not only for their creative drive but also for the networking and collaborative benefits that come with them.

While many
game jams follow that procedure and have produced
really unique
games out of the constraints, we feel the lack of themes helps our jammers breathe and implement whatever they feel necessary to their projects.
Earlier this year, Vlambeer's co-hosted 7DFPS
game jam led to SUPERHOT, which I still think has potential to be something
really interesting.

really thought i'd renew by now but a vita remaster which is quite short and seems to be very much a kids
game and disc
jam..
The only wrasslin
game I ever
really liked was Def
Jam Vendetta.
Rather than trying to
jam everything under the sun into your
game, narrowing your scope and laser targeting on the most interesting elements can let you
really find the magic in a simple design.
It reminds me of how I can't play an NFL / NBA style
game because I know nothing of the rules and usually get trashed, but
really love playing arcadey
games like NBA
Jam, win or lose.
Also: we dig into the need for Microsoft to start taking Kinect a bit more seriously, and how they
really need to kick off a big indie
game jam or something.

I met other enthusiastic
game - makers, learnt new tools, had exciting creative discussions, worked on group projects, did
game jams... I
really fell in love with
game design, and exploring the form went from a hobby to a life ambition.
