I want to change our lifestyle to a healthy, organic one... I will use these
jars to can our own fruits,
veggies and other
foods to help us in that goal... I have joined his site and others, am reading up on anything I can get my ands on to help us in this endeavor..
We always used a
jarred sauce (whole
foods roasted veggie, or any brand four cheese is a good bet, and occasionally an arrabiatta if we're feeling ambitious and spicy) but the kicker is to chop up fresh
veggies and saute first: zucchini, peppers, carrots, celery even — and then pour the sauce over it to heat it up.
Speaking of
food trends, I've also included spiralized
veggies AND hemp seeds into the mason
jar, so we are talking about one popular salad!!
I wish they would just offer fresh fruits and
veggies instead of
jarred foods and processed cereals.
WIC did offer breastfeeding support - peer counselor, access to a pump if I was working, extra supplemental fruits and
veggies, etc - but we also get 95
jars of baby
food per month.
We bake and puree squash, potatoes, apples, yams, and other fruits and
veggies on the weekends and store them in baby
food jars in the fridge or freeze them in ice - cube trays.
I make an effort to waste as little as possible and the
food I purchase either doesn't come in a package (like fruits and
veggies), comes in recyclable packaging (like canned beans or a
jar of applesauce) or we buy in bulk (like nuts and grains) and reuse the plastic bags until they are no good.
5 p.m.: Baby takes his dinner, which consists of: 2 ounces of milk mixed with 3 tbsp cereal, baby
food (a
jar of
veggies) and water in a sipper
Babies do not eat
jarred baby
food — rice porridge and blended
veggies instead.
Making fermented
foods at home is a very easy job — you only need the
veggies and a
jar.
Homemade fermented
foods like kimchi are actually easy to make, and generally involve putting your
veggies and spices into a
jar or crock with salt and whey or culture starter, then pounding to release the juices and letting them sit for a few days.
